Our Values & Mission

Our mission is to rescue and treat the un-owned stray dogs who have become ill or injured, spay / neuter them, make them get adopted to a lovely home, and through their rescue educate & inspire a community to protect and defend the lives of all the stray dogs around them.

The Beginning

Safe home foundation was established in the year 2017 in Madurai, india to help the street dogs who had no-one else to care for them. Over lakhs of stray dogs roamed around in Madurai and its surroundings, with the numbers growing alarmingly due to a provide a humane and sustainable solution to managing the stray population and to address their medical needs.

The First Step

In the year 2015, after coming to know about the tough situations & over population of the stray dogs in Madurai city we have decided to take a step and started to learn about how to rescue dogs ,hiring and training staff, and raising funds for medicine and foods. Initially we don’t have shelter to keep the rescued dogs at that stage we have rescued them treated them in private & government veterinary clinics and keep them in our houses where we live. Later we have found few volunteers who are willing to help us in rescues, feeding activities & awareness programs. After 2years in 2017 SHF has started their first shelter in a small village nearer to the city. We have built as a team and started working effectively for the welfare of stray dogs. With a small shelter we were able to rescue around 50dogs a month. Peoples in Madurai and surroundings will make a call to our helpline number if they see any sick or injured stray dogs in their locality. We use to respond immediately weather the dog needed a first air or treatments. We have received around 5 to 8 calls a day we use to rescue them and treat the dog with at most care.
